Norbert Haug: Mercedes ‘V8’ is the most powerful engine – Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug has recently updated the media with his perception that the Mercedes’ engine is the most powerful among all Formula 1 engines.
The Renault engine might be more competent in its running, but Haug added that he is happy with the Mercedes’ engine working, as it was quite reliable over the Chinese weekend.
Other than Haug, Red Bull Racing team also shared his observation about the Mercedes ‘V8’. They commented that there was no doubt that the Mercedes’ engine working on the grid was more efficient, as well as the best overall.
Haug added, "I don't know the numbers of our competitors, but our engine as well as our KERS are repeatedly referred to as the yardstick in the industry. We haven't claimed these ourselves, but many have argued it. That our competitors do highly competent
work, whether they are called Ferrari, Renault or Cosworth, there is no doubt.”
He further added that it may be possible that the Renault engine is best, as the Red Bull team, Renault team and Lotus is powered by this engine. Lotus has recently claimed that the RS27 engine is "extremely good" in the area of fuel consumption.
He went on to say, "Using less fuel than your competitor is generally because you have less power. I think that in specific consumption, we look very good. In absolute consumption, for the reason I gave, maybe I prefer if we are not the very best."
The Mercedes motor racing Chief Haug also said that the Mercedes GP team pace in China race was ‘real’. However, the team is expecting a more positive performance in the season’s fourth race at Turkey.
The team moved up on the grid much faster than expectations during the Chinese weekend. After their recent success during the Chinese race, the Petronas-sponsored team put a target on repeating their level of performance in the next race at the Turkish GP.
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg completed his fifth fastest run of the race, in China, however he is looking forward to a podium position in the up-coming races of the season.
