Norbert Haug: Rescheduling of Bahrain Grand Prix in 2011 Formula 1 season going to be very difficult
There are rumours that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) is thinking of rescheduling the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 Formula 1 season for a later date.
According to Mercedes’ Norbert Haug, it is not going to be as easy as it seems and if it happens, it would create a lot of logistical problems for the teams.
The Bahrain Grand Prix had to be postponed due to the current political unrest in the country and in order to ensure the safety of the people involved in the event physically, the FIA decided to cancel the race at first but it seems that the race might take
place as the final race of the season if it is possible.
However, the current situation in Bahrain is quite uncertain so the probability of holding the Bahrain Grand Prix later on is quite low.
“Finding the right gap in the firmly subscribed calendar is going to be a very difficult task. I don't think it's feasible. One must think first and foremost about the staff,” said Norbert.
He added that scheduling the race at the right time in the right conditions and expectations that the event would be a success does not seem possible at the moment.
On the other hand, Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner believes that the race could be squeezed in possibly.
“It will certainly be a challenge to accommodate. But nothing is ever impossible. It's a very busy calendar this year. Already now, at the end of November, we'll have finished 19 races,” he said.
Other than that, Virgin Racing Team’s Timo Glock stated that the drivers will not have any problem in participating in the race but it would be difficult for the teams and mechanics. However, the decision is in the hands of the Government of Bahrain and
the FIA obviously.
If it is possible, the FIA should definitely reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix as the 2011 Formula 1 season has already been delayed for two weeks and delaying the grand finale of the season for a week or two will not affect the teams’ effort either.
In fact, since the teams’ are prepared for a 20-race season, the 2011 Formula 1 season will become even more exciting as a result if the organisers successfully reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix.
