Norbert Haug admits Mercedes GP might not compete for the titles in 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s Norbert Haug has also admitted after Michael Schumacher that the team does not have a chance of competing for the titles next year either as it is quite a long shot.
“Under normal circumstances, you do not go from fourth to first in one jump,” he said.
Mercedes GP are currently in 4th place in the constructors’ standings and despite the fact that their pace is much quicker than the rest of the mid-running teams of the sport, they are still considered as a mid-running team since
they are nowhere near the pace of the top running teams like McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari.
According to the seven-time former world champion Michael Schumacher, Mercedes GP might not be able to compete for the title in 2012 either as they are currently “too far behind” in terms of pace and in order to become more consistent and reliable, they
need some time as they cannot pull off “miracles.”
The team already stated recently that fighting for the 2011 Formula 1 championship was out of question and that the team still needs to work on a lot of things before becoming a top running team in the sport.
Since the formation of Mercedes GP, Ross Brawn has been struggling to give the team some race winning results as the team has been unable to come up with a good car.
In 2009 on the other hand, almost the same management came up with a championship-winning car with a team by the name of BrawnGP. After such results, the team has definitely proved that they have the capability of scoring some miraculous results and with
drivers like Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher, doing so is pretty much possible.
However, Schumacher has not been able to secure a single podium position since his return and on top of that, he has not been able to cope up with his teammate Nico Rosberg either.
However, the team is hoping for better results next year but has declared that people should not expect them to become a championship winning team all of a sudden.
