Norbert Haug amused by reports about Nico Rosberg’s link with Ferrari
Mercedes GP’s motorsport boss, Norbert Haug, has recently stated that he is amused by these recent reports, which state that Nico Rosberg, might switch to Ferrari next year as a replacement for Felipe Massa.
“Last weekend it was the first of May, not the first of April. So this joke is a month too late,” said Haug.
According to some reports, it was revealed recently that Rosberg’s management and Ferrari actively interacted with each other as a result of which, it was believed that the team might be interested in hiring the young German for the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Since Massa’s contract is expected to expire by the end of this season.
Nico Rosberg has been performing consistently well since 2010 and surprisingly for some, he has been outscoring his teammate the 7-time Formula 1 world champion consistently since then.
Rosberg led the Chinese Grand Prix for a noticeable amount of time and if it weren’t for his “flawed races strategy”, he could have secured the podium position at least. However, he finished in 5th place and scored his first points of the season.
His teammate on the other hand scored the 8th position after scoring the 9th place at the Malaysian Grand Prix as well.
However, it has been revealed that the young German has not released any statements regarding this rumour but he recently stated that he is very happy with his team at the moment and he is hoping for the best in the near future.
“I am very happy where I am, I believe in the team and want to go with them to the top”, said Rosberg.
The team is hoping to improve its car ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix and they are hoping to score some good points at the upcoming races of the season in order to improve their rankings in the championship.
Mercedes GP scored some promising results during the pre-season testing period and it seemed that they would be one of the top running teams of the sport.
However, since the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, it seems that the team has been unable to score any good performance and now it seems that Michael Schumacher might not be able to secure a single victory this season either.
The German driver returned to the sport last year hoping that he might score a championship after his return but it seems that up until now according to the team’s current performance as compared to the top running teams, that is far from possible.
Mercedes GP is currently in 5th place in the constructors’ standings with Nico Rosberg in 9th place in the drivers’ standings while Michael Schumacher is currently in 11th place in the drivers’ standings.
