Norbert Haug says Schumacher has not been unlucky in 2012 F1 season so far – Formula 1 news
Mercedes sports president, Norbert Haug says that their driver, Michael Schumacher has not been unlucky in 2012 Formula 1 season so far while he said that the veteran German driver struggled due to tight competition.
The seven-time world champion has only been able to score 2 points in the season until now. Even though, he has shown some impressive performances in the qualifying of several races. However, he could not convert his competitive grid positions into a podium
finish in either of them.
It will be important to mention that the record championship holder topped the timesheets during the qualifying of the Monaco GP. Unfortunately, he could not score any point in the race as he was retired. Moreover, he started the race from 6th grid position
as he faced five-place grid penalty because of his collision with Bruno Senna of Williams in the fifth race held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Nevertheless, Haug said that in order to improve the performance of Schumacher, they need to work hard to make the necessary advancements and the substantial preparations so as to enhance the pace of the car for the forthcoming races to fight for the championship
title this year.
“It's not unlucky, that happens sometimes,” Haug said. “If you push and you develop the team further you have to accept that it doesn't work sometimes. It's happened to a lot of people before, it's not an ideal situation but you have to be strong - it could
turn around tomorrow. I think he showed what he can do again. Some people criticised him but he was in six races four times in the top four. The speed is there and there's some reliability issues which are unfortunate, but again we have to criticise ourselves,
we have to criticise the team.”
The Brackley-based team is presently standing at fifth position in the constructors’ championship with 61 points and they are aiming to score some reasonable points in the races ahead.
Besides, regardless of facing issues in the start of the season, Schumacher said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit-Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
