Norbert Haug says Vettel and di Resta might be together in same team in future – Formula 1 news
Mercedes-Benz motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug has said that Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Force India’s Paul di Resta might be together in the same Formula 1 team in future.
However, he said they have to see who will be the best one of them.
He also mentioned that at this moment Vettel is the best driver in Formula 1, as he took a very strong start to the 2011 season.
Apart from the current world champion, Haug mentioned that di Resta had a strong debut in Formula 1 this year. In addition, he said di Resta could be driving for the Mercedes team in near future.
Haug went on to add, “Who knows whether at some point, as they were in F3, they might be together in the same Formula One team and then we'll know definitively who is the best. Today it's Sebastian Vettel.”
Meanwhile, Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn insisted that it is not the right time to talk about their drivers’ contracts.
Brawn said, “We have bigger problems. He has done a fantastic job and it's a big challenge for Michael to keep up with him. Now is not the time to talk about contracts for the future. Time will tell how long we co-operate. We need to prove that we are the
team at which drivers want to be.”
Both Mercedes drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg are still unable to achieve a race victory in ongoing season. However, in the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, Schumacher took a positive step towards Mercedes’ success by challenging the top drivers
of the sport and finishing fourth in Montreal.
The team boss admitted that he is happy with his current drivers’ line-up. He believes his squad will show more improvements in the remainder of 2011 Formula 1 season.
The eighth round of this season will take place at the Valencia Street Circuit on June 26, 2011.
