Norbert Haug says contract talks with Michael Schumacher not expected at Spa – Formula 1 news
Norbert Haug, president in charge of motorsport activities of Mercedes Benz has ruled out the possibility that the future of contract for the next season of Michael Schumacher will be decided at Spa.
The three-year contract of Schumacher with Mercedes is expiring this year.
Haug said that it is not expected that anything related to the contract of Schumacher will be announced at Spa because it is expected to take some more time.
“I doubt there will be an announcement at Spa. This is going to take a little bit longer,” he is quoted by SID news agency.
Discussions related to the contract of the German driver could be best timed during the summer vacations between August to September this year.
In the Hungaroring Grand Prix, Schumacher was able to start the race at 17th grid position however, he could not make it to the finish line and retired from the race. At the beginning of the Hungaroring GP, he switched off his engine because his car was
heating up. Then he had to start the race from the pitlane but suffered a tyre puncture in the very first lap. All in all, his race went from bad to worse and finally he retired in the 58th lap.
After the Hungaroring GP in the current season, he is at the 12th place in the drivers’ championship.
In the German Grand Prix, he started at the 3rd grid position and he was able to conclude the race at the 7th place.
Schumacher has had a mixed season this year mainly due to the car issues he has suffered.
