Norbert Haug sets to leave Mercedes at the end of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Head of Mercedes-Benz motorsport, Norbert Haug is going to leave the team at the end of this year, after serving for more than 22 years.
Haug has been working as the head of Mercedes motorsport since 1990. Moreover, he also helped the Silver Arrows in returning to Formula 1 back in 2010 as a constructor.
However, the Brackley based team has only been able to win one race which their driver, Nico Rosberg claimed in this year’s Chinese Grand Prix.
On the other hand, Rosberg’s teammate, Michael Schumacher, who came back to the sport with Mercedes, struggled with his pace during the last two seasons and could not attain promising results for his team. Even though, he secured an impressive third podium
finish in the European GP, but has failed to score points with consistency because of some reliability and tyre management issues.  
Although, Haug has faced a little bit criticism as Mercedes have not been able to achieve their goals until now. However, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars and CEO of Daimler AG, has paid tribute to Haug for his loyalty and commitment.
Furthermore, Zetsche said that the German has played a crucial role in taking Mercedes to new heights in the world of autosport.
“Norbert Haug was the face of the Mercedes-Benz Motorsport programme for more than 20 years.” Zetsche said. “For me, he put his stamp on a whole era and, as a highlight, he was responsible for the successful comeback of the Silver Arrows to Formula One.
In the name of the Board of Management and the whole motorsport family, I would like to thank Norbert for his extraordinary commitment to the three-pointed star.”
Besides, Haug has expressed his immense gratitude towards Mercedes. In addition, he said that although they have not been able to achieve success since their return in the sport, but he is very much hopeful of the bright future of his team.
“I would like to thank the best car company in the world for more than 22 years, which never had a single moment without passion for me,” Haug said.
