When asked about Dusseldorf’s interest in the striker, Meier admired of Raul’s affection for his club but ruled out any chance of tying knots with the Spanish international.
While talking to Goal.com, the 53-year-old further stated:
"I've read them. And it's also true: Raul lives in Dusseldorf, and I think he's really comfortable here. He enjoys the freedom, going out in the street without constantly having to constantly sign autographs. He has already visited
us before and worn a Fortuna scarf. He even knows a few Fortuna songs."
The manager then turned his attention to his side’s upcoming DFB Pokal game against the reigning German champions Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, December 20. Meier believes that the F95 will have to be on their toes from the word
go as the Borussians will not be easy opponents.
The Dusseldorf boss also expressed his grief at Mario Gotze’s absence from the Dortmund line-up for the game on Tuesday. He opined that it would have been better to face the Black Yellows with the youngster in their squad.
"First of all, Mario Gotze is a great footballer. I'm not one to cry 'hurrah!' when such a great player is hurt. For us, the DFB Pokal is a bonus game and I would look forward even more to facing Borussia with their best eleven."
Meier concluded.
