Nordea Scandinavian Masters 2010: Louis loses to Choi
Korean KJ Choi ended the second round of the Nordea Scandinavian masters with a 9 under par, kicking Louis Oosthuizen to the third position at 7 under par on Thursday at the Bro Hoff Slott Golf Club in Scotland.
Louis Oosthuizen has plans of winning back-to-back titles after winning the British Open Championship which was held in Saint Andrews a few weeks back.
To counter Louis Oosthuizen and his plans, KJ Choi finished with 9 under par 67 which is a big lead. His peformance comes after KJ Choi ‘s last victory came in the year 2003 at the German Masters tournament after which he could not make it to the leaders board for the next seven years. Richard Johnson is chasing both the golfers with a lot of intensity, who is currently standing at the second position at the end of the second round with 8 under par.
KJ Choi has been trying different putting techniques but unfortunately, they did not seem to be fruitful. He started off with Sam Snead’s method of side saddle putting which resulted in missing the cut at the John Deere Classic along with his ploys at St. Andrews. Due to both the failures, he is back with his regular putting style at the Bro Hoff Slott.
Despite coming back to his regular putting style, KJ Choi requires more practice on the sloped greens. Although his score was remarkably good at 67 with six birdies and 1 eagle, his putting let him down on long range puts.
Louis Oosthuizen went through a number of problems in his score of 70. He missed a few shots on the greens resulting in 2 bogeys at the 4th and the 14thhole along with a double bogey on the 17th hole.
According to the 27-year-old South African, a player should go according to his game plan and this is what Louis Oosthuizen plans to do.
Other than KJ Choi, American player Richard Johnson won the last tournament of his career back in 2002 in Australia. His score in the second round of the masters was the second lowest at 66 with 8 under par. Unlike Louis Oosthuizen, he did not have a single bogey on the course so far.
On the other hand, there were a number of injuries that occurred in this years’ tournament. Jesper Parnevik had to retire due to a fractured vertebra. The unfit American had to quit after 11 holes of the second round. Jesper Parnvik settled with 5 over at the end of the 11th hole. Michael Campbell faced a troubling shoulder due to which he retired from the tournament right after the 9th hole. He finished with 15 over par.
A part from the top two, Italy’s Edoardo Molinari has performed exceptionally well. He ended with 5 under after smashing 3 birdies and 2 bogeys in the second round. His performance after the Ryder Cup is very convincing for a finish in the top three players.
Another American Dustin Johnson, who finished with 5 birdies and six bogeys, is playing at 5 under par only four shots away from the lead. However, his compatriot Rickie Fowler scored a triple bogey at the 13th hole, dismissing the chances of one more American to win the trophy of the tournament.
The second round of the Nordea Scandinavian Masters comes to an exciting end. KJ Choi is in the lead with 9 under par followed by Richard Johnson at 8 under and the 139th open champion Louis Oosthuizen is at the 3rd position with 7 under. With two more days to go till the final result hits the leader board, analysts predict that there is a fair chance that Louis Oosthuizen might run away with another victory right after 1 week but with a small margin.
