what is v1 and v2?

  1. V1 is when you pole only when you're gliding to one side.  (For me, I pole when I glide left.)

    V2 is when you pole both when you glide to the left and to the right.  This one's a little trickier to get a rhythm going with.

  2. v1 is a slower technique mainly for hill climbing. Although it is only poling to one side, when you practice it you should alternate sides so that your weaker side gets better too. v2 is great for flats and downhill. Its like 2nd gear. The timing is different from v1 though. I recommend watching some videos of the u.s. ski team. Keep skiiiing!
