Norfolk v Bedfordshire: Minor Counties Championship – Norfolk’s First Innings Recap
Norfolk edged to a nail biting victory over Bedfordshire by one run in a three-day match of the Minor Counties Championship at the Manor Park, Horsford in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, August 2, 2011.
Bedfordshire required 280 runs for victory on the final day, but fell short by just a couple of runs of the target. The team lost its last three wickets for one run, getting all out for 278.
Earlier, the home team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Arthur-Walker-c58993 opted to bat first after winning the toss. He seemed to have misread the pitch, as there was some assistance for the bowlers on the first day’s play.
Norfolk were dismissed for 152 runs in their first innings. None of the team’s batsmen managed to score a half-century in the innings and the highest score came from lower-order player Luke Caswell. He remained unbeaten on 37 runs, running out of partners
from the other end.
The hosts could not have got off to a worse start, losing both openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-John-Rogers-c49229 early. They failed to trouble the scorers, leaving the team two down without any run on the board.
The innings finally got going, as Matthew Warnes and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trevor-Robert-Ward-c94385 collected 20 runs for the third wicket partnership. The latter was unable to last long, getting out after adding 11 runs to the total with the help of a couple of boundaries.
Just five runs later, Warnes was also sent back to the pavilion. The first-drop batsman collected 12 runs before being dismissed, leaving the team in deep trouble at 25/4.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Kevin-Gray-c91157 was also unable to make an impression, getting out for five runs. He was followed by Peter Lambert, who failed to make most of the start to his innings, getting out for 18 runs.
Chris brown tried to offer resistance with his defensive approach, but was unable to last long. He faced 20 deliveries and was sent back to the pavilion without adding a single run to the total.
The hosts’ skipper, who would have been regretting his decision to bat first, was also not able to rescue his side from trouble. He managed just six runs in his short stay at the crease.
With eight batsmen back in the hut for 75 runs, it appeared as Norfolk would be all out within 100 runs. However, Caswell and Oli Stone put together 39 runs for the ninth wicket stand, guiding their team’s total above 100.
Stone was unable to capitalise on the start and was dismissed after contributing 22 runs to the total.
Michael Warnes was the last man to be dismissed in the innings after scoring 18 runs. Caswell remained not out on 37 off 103 balls with the help of four boundaries, guiding his side’s total to 152.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Charles-McGarry-c44310 and Colin Griggs used the conditions very well, picking up 5 and 4 wickets in their respective spells for Bedfordshire.
