Norfolk v Suffolk: Minor Counties Championship – Match Recap
Norfolk eased to an eight-wicket win over Suffolk in a match of the Minor Counties Championship at the Manor Park, Horsford in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
The hosts needed just 91 runs for victory on the final day’s play. They did not have many problems during the run chase and reached the target easily in the end, losing just a couple of wickets.
Earlier, the visitors’ captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Justin-Edward-Bishop-c69700 elected to bat first after winning the toss. He expected the pitch to be good for batting, but the decision failed miserably, as the team was all out for 181 runs in their first outing.
The start to Suffolk’s innings was a very good one, as openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-Benjamin-Huggins-c93294 put together 76 runs for the first wicket partnership. They failed to make most of the start though, getting dismissed for 37 and 35 in their respective outings.
The middle-order struggled to take advantage of the slid start, as wickets started to tumble in the Suffolk innings. A few batsmen managed to get starts, but none managed to convert them into a big one.

Norfolk’s Chris Brown picked up 5 wickets in the innings, leading his side into a very good position.
The hosts’ openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Mark-Spelman-c65901 and Matthew Warnes did not have any problems once they came out to bat in the middle. The pair put together a magnificent first wicket stand of 141 runs before the latter got out after adding 49 runs to the total.
Spelman made most of the start he got to his innings, collecting 138 runs in his fabulous outing. He struck 17 boundaries in his innings, guiding the team to 302/6 declared.
Philip Edwards picked up 3 wickets for Suffolk, but lacked support from the other bowlers.
A solid effort was required by the visitors in their second innings in order to challenge the opposition. However, things did not go well for the team, getting all out for 211 runs.
Opener Ben http://www.senore.com/Cricket/France-c2899 scored 63 runs for Suffolk at the top of the order, but the rest of the batting was below par. Thomas Huggins remained unbeaten on 43 until the end, but the team managed an overall lead of just 90 runs.
Norfolk’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Arthur-Walker-c58993 captured 5 wickets in the innings, giving the upper hand to his side.
The home team lost a couple of wickets in their second outing, but it did not stop them from winning the match in the end. Spelman was once again impressive, as he remained unbeaten on 46.
