May I know what is the medication Norgesic main objective? I have a serious back pain. Is this medication appropriate. Can it be taken along with diazepam which my psychiatrist prescribed for my sleeplessness and easily panic stricken symtom. It helps in relaxing oneself. I would like to know will these 2 medication contradict each other?

  1. Norgesic contains aspirin, caffeine and orphenadrine.

Aspirin is in a class of drugs called salicylates. It works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation and therefore reduces pain, inflammation, and fever.

Caffeine is used in this combination to increase the pain relieving effects of aspirin and orphenadrine.

Orphenadrine is a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to the brain.

Aspirin/caffeine/orphenadrine is used, along with rest and physical therapy, to treat injuries and other painful muscular conditions.

Diazepam and orphenadrine have a moderate drug-drug interaction. Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.

During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counselled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.
