When I use component cables to hook up my dvd player to my HD Tv does it only go up to 720p? Or does it go up to 1080i?

How do I know which one it's using?

  1. A component hook up is capable of full 1080p. To find out which one you're using there should be an info display on your TV. There should also be an output setting on your DVD player which will also tell you.

  2. For copy protection reasons, most DVDs can output only up to 480p over component.

However, your HD TV will upconvert it to its native resolution (720p or 1080p), so no problemo!

If you press info on your TV's remote, you can see what is the DVD output.
