I had this intel p4 3.2GHz ht prescott processor laying around so i built a comp with it. My cpu is running at 138F or about 59C. I heard prescott processors heat up quite a bit. so im wondering what these processors normally operate at.

thanks

  1. Hey George,

That is normal since that cpu has a TDP rating of over 100w, however with such a high operating temp it leaves you little room to allow for dust accumulation which will happen between periodic cleanings.

I found an article that mentions using high performance heatsinks, and I always recommend them over the stock intel cooling solution.

As you can see an improved cooling solution can add several years of life to your newly built spare parts system.  There is one great deal from of all places Micro Center, I have used four of these units this year to replace failing P4 fans it is an excellent bargin
