I just bought a Kawasaki Ninja 250 and the RMP's go up to 16. I know on a car when I am going about 50-55 the RPM's are at about 2. So I just wanted to know if I am going about 50-55 on my 250 how many RPM's should I be at?

  1. Remember you are powering your bike with a single piston about the size of a quarter. It is going to scream at any hiway speed. Piston wear will match sound. People tout this bike as hiway capable,  it's a 250, period. Answer: about 4.5K.

  2. the ninja 250 is a TWIN, not a single cylinder.

Normal "cruising" RPM range on the EX250 is anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 - all depends on how much power you need at the time.

obviously, the higher in the RPM range you are, the more power you have.

keeping the bike cool is more important than where it is in the RPM range.   running the bike at 12,000 RPM in first gear isn't that fast.

Running the bike at 12,000 RPM in 6th gear is pushing a LOT more air through the radiator, and effectively keeping your engine cooler.

lower RPM will use less gas, but don't be afraid to down-shift and give it some gas if you need power.

stay as low as you can w/o bogging the engine, and down-shift when you need to accelerate.
