North Allegheny win against Seneca Valley in WPIAL Class AAA Boys Volleyball Championship Final
North Allegheny High school boys volleyball team was able to defeat Seneca Valley by 3-1 on Friday. The match was the final of the WPIAL Class AAA Boys Volleyball Championship and was being played at Chartiers Valley High School.
The performance that Seneca Valley put up in the final was one that surprised many fans and peers. Seneca Valley was able to bag the first set of the match and brought the score close in each of the next three sets. This is reflected by the final set scores
that stood at the following figures: 26-24, 31-29, 25-23 and 25-21.
Seneca Valley coach, Dan Mountain, was happy with the boys and said, “I’m really proud of our guys. Some of our guys had played their best games ever, but it just wasn’t enough.”
Seneca Valley was able to take the first set of the game for themselves at 26-24. This accomplishment was made after following the game plan that Seneca Valley had churned up for North Allegheny. However, North Allegheny figured out the strategy being used
by Seneca Valley and consequently changed theirs. It had the right affect as Seneca Valley had not thought of any plan B against their rivals.
As a result, the second set of the match was the most intense. The match kept swinging back and forth between the two teams as each tried to gain dominance over the other. Even in the final stages of the set, no one was sure where the tables would turn.
After some breath taking set points, North Allegheny was able to bag the second set of the game at 31-29.
The win brought North Allegheny back to life and they were able to play the third set with renewed confidence. Seneca Valley did not give up and kept on giving tough competition to North Allegheny. However, the effort that Seneca Valley put in was not enough
to keep North Allegheny from winning the third set of the game at 25-23.
Being at a two set deficit put Seneca Valley in troubled waters and they started the fourth set of the game under extraordinary pressure. On the other hand, North Allegheny were highly motivated and looked determined to make kill the game in what would give
them their fifth consecutive championship victory. North Allegheny was able to manage just that by pulling off a win at 25-21.
Seneca Valley may get a chance next week to redeem themselves against North Allegheny in the PIAA Volleyball Tournament. Seneca Valley will be going into the tournament supporting a total of 13 wins which have been accomplished at the cost of three losses.
