ATLUS, the game’s developer, has confirmed that they are set to continue keeping the game’s online servers running for an indefinite period in light of new developments.
When Demon’s Souls broke on to the gaming scene all those years ago it was a breath of fresh air, one that would make you choke on it on the way down but would leave you with a satisfying ache later.
One of the key components of the game was its unique use of multiplayer, as players could enter your world to either aid you or kill you at any time. Also players who had died during their playthroughs would leave ghost animations of their final few moments as well as messages to warn others about the dangers that lay ahead.
It was something a majority of gamers had never seen before and one felt surrounded by friends throughout the experience despite the fact that he was completely alone. It was an experience that no one who got a taste of wanted to stop playing, despite the game being excruciatingly challenging.
A few months ago ATLUS announced that the game’s servers would be closing down, however, the developer seems to have taken a U-turn on that front as the VP of sales and marketing, Tim Pivnicny, announced, "We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer."
He continued to explain the reasons behind the move, "While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls."
Before throwing one last pitch for the game when he said, “For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game's amazing online experience, we're happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon's Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time."
Demon’s Souls is an experience that may not be for everyone but one that every gamer should try at least once.
