  1. Ardossan is the ferry port for The Isle of Arran, which is a gentile tourist resort with stunning mountains. Apart from the ferry port and the yacht marina Ardrossan is a run down sort of place with most of the town boarded up, not even Charity Shops. No longer do Glaswegians come here for their holidays and the empty homes have been given over to Problem Families from Glasgow with all their violence, drugs etc. Naturally this effects the schools badly.

The only work seems to be those who hold the place together

viz Social Workers, NHS, Social Security Officers, School Staff, Police, Magistrates, Psychiatrists, These are the only middle-class and they don't stay for long despite financial incentives. (Could this be why you interested in going there?)

You've gotta be tough to survive there. Weather's grim in the winter with gales blowing in straight from America. Try it, if you survive 18 months you must have had a very hard life!

  2. The postcode is for Elm Park in Ardrossan.

Ardrossan is not my choice of location to live. There are some rough parts and some areas of deprivation (especially near the harbour and the Glasgow Street/Princes Street area).

There are so quite nice parts, such as the area to the west of Dalry Road. Elm Park is more the middle ground.

  3. Ardrossan is okay, although a bit tired and suffering from the town centre shops closing down as folks go to the bigger towns.  Not that much in the town other than being a route to the Arran Ferry.

Good enough area that is probably improving as you can commute to Galsgow so folks are moving there. Better than Saltcoats and Stevenston next door, although West Kilbride and Largs up the road are probably nicer.

Good access for Glasgow, Ayr for commuting, and well enough served by trains.  Nice coastal area without being too exposed to the elements - and you will get some stunning views of Arran with the ever changing weather and scenery

  5. Have you got a town or village in mind?  North Ayrshire's a big place with lots of different areas.  Could you be more specific please?

Kilmarnock?  Okay, there's good and bad areas there.

Ok just checked the postcode and you are talking about Ardrossan.  From what I have seen of it, it looks like an okay place.  Nice beach, town looks ok and a great local chippy.  We used to go fishing there years ago.  I wouldn't know what it's like to live there though.
