North Carolina, Duke and Louisville Cardinals prevail – NCAA Basketball Roundup November 22 (Part 1)
Nine games took place in NCAA basketball on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Here is a brief review of the games:
North Carolina Tar Heels 102 - Tennessee State Tigers 69
Reggie Bullock tallied a career-high 23 points on 6 for 7 shooting from downtown as North Carolina Tar Heels remained unbeaten in the tournament with a 102-69 victory over Tennessee State Tigers at Dean E.
Smith Center.
John Henson added 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out a career-best six assists while Harrison Barnes chipped in with 16 points in the victory. Kendall Marshall had 15 assists and Tyler Zeller came
off the bench with 12 points and six rebounds for the Tar Heels.
Kellen Thornton punctuated a team-high 15 points while Patrick Miller added 10 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in the loss.
Bullock scored 14 of his points in the first half as Tar Heels held a 55-42 lead at halftime. North Carolina opened the second half on a 14-3 run for 69-45 lead and did not look back.
Duke Blue Devils 82 - Michigan Wolverines 75
Austin Rivers added a game-high 20 points as Duke Blue Devils edged out Michigan Wolverines 82-75 at the Lahaina Civic Center, Mau. With this victory, the Devils booked a date with Kansas Jayhawks in the
Maui Invitational Championship final.
Seth Curry and Ryan Kelly posted 17 points each while Andre Dawkins also totalled 14 points in the victory. Tim Hardaway Jr. Led Michigan with 19 points while Trey Burke contributed 17 points and nine assists
in the losing effort. Jordan Morgan had 12 points and six rebounds while Zack Novak finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Duke opened the first half on a 9-0 run and held a 12-point lead, 34-22, at halftime. The Wolverines hit 11 of their first 12 shots in the second half and trimmed the Blue Devils’ lead to five, 40-35. The
Blue Devils however reeled off a 20-12 run to put the game out of the reach of Wolverines.
Louisville Cardinals 54 - Arkansas State Red Wolves 27
At the KFC Yum! Center, Kyle Kuric posted 12 points and three rebounds as the short-handed Louisville Cardinals topped Arkansas State Red Wolves 54-27 in the lowest-scoring contest for the Arkansas State
since 1986.
Gorgui Dieng also racked up 10 points for the Cardinals to go along with seven rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Marcus Hooten led the Red Wolves with just seven points while Brandon Peterson had 10 rebounds
and six points.
Arkansas State held a 7-3 lead early in the first half but the Cardinals turned it on with a 16-0 run and carried a 22-12 lead into the second. Louisville pushed their lead to 23 points early in the second
half and maintained their double-digit hold until the final buzzer.
