Question:

North Carolina - non-owners policy question?

I'm an international student that goes to college in North Carolina. I do not own a car, but in the state of NC you need liability insurance to take your driver's test. My insurance quote for 6 months was $931 since I was a new driver and I was told will go down each year. I've paid a year's worth of insurance which I feel is just money gone. Now my insurance co is asking me if I want to renew my policy. I leave the US for 3 months from may to august to go back home for a while and I don't think it makes sense to pay for insurance, when I don't own a car and I'm not even in the US for that period. I don't want to renew my insurance, but my question is will my license get revoked or suspended? It makes sense to pay so much if I had a car, but I don't own a car. Any advice will help!

  1. Get on the department of transportation website for North Carolina, and you can confirm that you don't need this coverage. Don't solicit this type of advice on the internet. You don't know if the person answering knows anything more than you do. So, do your research yourself by reviewing the official state website! Have fun on your three month break!
