North East Collegiate Volleyball Association: MIT men’s volleyball team wins against Wentworth Institute of Technology
Friday proved to be a good day for the MIT men’s volleyball team as they made their way towards a well deserved win. The match that the number ten ranked men’s team won was contested against the Wentworth Institute of Technology. Despite the fact that WIT lost to MIT in a clean sweep, the three sets that were won by MIT were made to be a difficult win. The contest between the two teams was part of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association match and marked the last match of the regular season for the Engineers.
This time around the Engineers had a season that they could be proud of. With their recent win, the Engineers were able to improve their already strong overall season record to a total of 28 wins. MIT has been able to manage these victories after undergoing losses that amount to six. In contrast to the number of wins that MIT has had, the losses that they have undergone are impressively low.
The start of the first set of the game went in the favour of MIT. They were able to come out strong from the beginning of the opening set. MIT had the lead during the middle of the set as well. However, the Leopards were able to step up their game and bring the score close to that of the MIT at 14-13. The Engineers did not let the Leopards take the lead and extended their advantage. Again, the Leopards did not give up and were able to put on a 9-3 run that enabled them to keep the chase hot at 23-22. This tug of war took place between the two teams for a long time and no one was sure where the tables would turn. Eventually, MIT was able to bag the first set of the game at 41-39.
The second set also started on the same note as the first set and MIT was able to take control of the game early on. The Engineers had the lead for themselves at 5-1. However, the Leopards did not let this affect their spirit and stepped up their game. Wentworth was able to tie the match at 11. MIT did not relent and put on a spurt of speed that gave them the advantage once again. But the Leopards did not back off and brought the score board level again at 18. Despite their repeated effort, the Leopards were not able to keep MIT from bagging the second set of the game at 25-20.
With two sets in their bag, MIT did not have a hard time in winning the third set of the game as well. The third set went the way of MIT at 25-17.
The recent win puts a satisfactory end to the regular season volleyball matches of MIT who have achieved much to be proud of.
