North Harbour Hockey has announced the 2010 celebrity hockey match that will take place on Friday December 10th at North Harbour Hockey
Stadium.
The purpose for conducting these matches is to send revenue from the event to Canterbury Hockey to help restore both their two water based
playing fields and their Canterbury Hockey offices. The facilities were damaged by the earthquake which took place in the early hours of September 4th to the area where they have temporarily relocated their offices.
The confirmed participants of the match include Canterbury Black Sticks and 2010 Commonwealth Games Medalists Dean Cousins, Andy Haywood
and Nick Haig.
Dean Cousins (Black Sticks Vice Captain) says “it’s a great cause, and will be a fantastic event to be involved in. I have spent many of
my hockey days at Canterbury Hockey and it has been a huge set back for the growth of hockey in the region, but it’s great to get support from another association”.
Other Black Stick players which will take part in the match are; 2010 Commonwealth Games Silver Medalists Natasha Fitzsimons, Stacey Michelsen,
Charlotte Harrison and Samantha Harrison while 2010 Commonwealth Games Bronze medalist Steve Edwards.
The New Zealand sport and media celebrities will come together on the hockey field in the night and with World Champions rowers Eric Murray,
Hamish Bond, Rebecca Scown and Emma Twigg, Warriors league star Kevin Locke, Silver Ferns captain Casey Williams, Former All Black Eric Rush, Olympic long jumper Chantal Brunner, 2010 Commonwealth Games medallists Ritchie Patterson (weightlifting) and Hayley
Palmer (Swimming), Former professional golfer Marnie McGuire, Media personality Chang from The Edge radio station, Radio Sport hosts Miles Davis, Wendy Meyer and Darcy Waldegrave along with singer Hollie Smith all are expected to perform on December 10.
Besides, there is also an arrangement of amusing activities for the evening with “the battle of thee schools” likely to be a highlight.
Ten local schools will compete against each other in a gladiator like obstacle course. Two supportive private charitable trusts have provided $3000 with the prize money to be spent on capital or educational projects at their school.
The event full of exciting activities like music, prizes, competitions, lolly scrambles, North Harbour gymnastics display, kapa haka, bar,
DJ, after party and auction will attract a great crowd.
Entry to this event will be free, however all the revenue through donations and auction will be reserved for Canterbury Hockey in support
of their earthquake relief.
