Question:

North Italian question: farfalle and baby potatoes ?

For years I've been making what I though was a classic north Italian dish consisting of farfalle, basil or arugula pesto, and baby potatoes still in their skins. Everybody loves this dish and it accompanies flesh, fowl, and fish beautifully.

However, when I did a Google search for farfalle and potatoes, nothing came up. Seems everything is paired with farfalle except potatoes.

Am I crazy? Did I dream up this combination? Have I been misleading my dinner guests and my children?

  1. Well... as soon as i've read your question, it's made me laugh, cos I understand Farfalle = Butterflies (cos we call farfalle both the pasta and the animal...)

Anyway, in Liguria pasta with pesto is a typical dish (farfalle or trenette) in the rest of the country we don't usually eat a lot of pesto... I have never eaten pasta with baby potatoes... maybe potatoes with flash or chicken, but with pasta... it's a bit weird for us.

But, of course, you can eat all the things you want... maybe you have discovered a new dish... and if it tastes good to you and your childre, it's ok!

Sorry for my bad english! :P

  2. Replace "farfalle" with "bowtie pasta" and repeat your search...

  3. I don't know what this dish is. You're probably not crazy though. I use farfalle and baby potatoes together, but I use mushrooms and artichokes instead of pesto. Your dish is probably an Italian one. I don't think you've been misleading friends and family and if you have, who would care
