North West 200. First timer seeks advice?

I think I've covered this in the header, but to put it in context,I'm speaking as a spectator here, never having had the bike or the ..erm, let's say nerve, shall we?... to race. I'm going to the North West 200 for the first time, having spent the last 20 years going to the Manx races and never having gotten around to checking out the Irish scene.

I hope to be staying in Port Rush, and shall be on foot, or on public transport

Advice required, please,e.g. best places to watch, things to do on pre-race days, essential equipment (radio? binoculars?) where to eat, drink, fall over - all that sort of thing.

I think you have covered it yourself friend.

You know the deal with the TT having a good seat and using binoculars etc.

As for viewing points Im a little rusty on that point myself as I have not been since I was a child ( many many moon ago ! )

Try and do as many as possible is my advice. Then next year, at least, you will know which ones to miss.

I'm a first timer this year, I'm stopping in ballycastle, i tryed about 20 b&b's in the circuit area and they are all fully booked, most people book year on year the same place. I'm going to check out circuit on friday before race for best spots to watch. In your case on foot get to one of the local pubs and ask; i'm sure they will give you all the imformation you need, being on foot you need to book now, which you could do through irish tourist board, good luck

Anywhere from the paddock to York corner(Anstey highsided here last year),Ballysally roundabout,maddybenny chicane(Cameron Donald clipped the kerb here.(No i'm not a s****t).York to University is worth the dander for flat out action,Metropole is always crowded but worth it if you get there early.Radio is essential,along with binoculars.Be prepared for long walks through fields.I can't recommend anywhere reg pubs,their all good.Mail me if you need more. http://www.northwest200.org/
