North West Invitation XI v South Africa Colts XI – Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week, 2012/13 – Match Update – NW Inv XI win by 53 runs
An incisive and economical bowling performance from Otlotleng Ramaboea propelled the North West Invitation XI to a comprehensive 53-run win over the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khaya-Majola-c71350 Week, played at the
North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom, on December 21.
The match kicked off with the NW Inv XI winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The SA Colts XI’s Kagiso Rabada (8-0-27-2) and Kyle Simmonds (9-0-44-2) made valiant attempts to curb the opposition’s batsmen, but the NW Inv XI managed to work their way
up to a decent 210-run total.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Willem-Petrus-Viljoen-c96652 (12) made an early exit, trapped lbw by Rabada in the 10th over, but Ludwig Roos (57) and Marchant Genis (73, retired hurt) steered the team in the right direction with an 86-run partnership for the second wicket.
By the time Roos was dislodged by Simmonds, the team total had swelled to 114.
Wicketkeeper Wynand Schmitt (8) and skipper Wihan Lubbe (2) failed to rack up substantial scores, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yusuf-Bulbulia-c98355 (12) kept the team going. Following their dismissals, none of the remaining batsmen managed to contribute much, but
by the end of 50 overs, with 6 wickets down and Kimeshin Chetty (3*) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otlotleng-Ramaboea-c80357 (2*) at the crease, the NW Inv XI posted a defendable final total of 210.
The team then proceeded to launch an effective defence of the total, with Otlotleng Ramaboea (10-1-25-4) leading the attack, while Gericke (10-4-13-3) and Lubbe (9-1-37-2) chipped in with supporting performances. Together, they managed to cut the SA Colts
XI off at 157, all out.
Openers Kirwin Christoffels (0) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Berg (9) were both disappointing, as was number four batsman Juan Heunis (7). Coming in at number 3, skipper David Bedingham top-scored for the team with 44, while Corbin Bosch (30) was the only other batsman
who managed to put forth a competitive performance. The rest crumbled without a fight, and within 45 overs, the SA Colts XI succumbed, all out, at 157, with the NW Inv XI clinching victory by a margin of 53 runs.
