The three-day competition between North West Under-19s and Gauteng Under-19s is all set for an epic ending as both sides have already finished their first innings with bowlers dominating the day, wreaking havoc within the ranks of the batting line-ups from both sides, at Olympia Park, Rustenberg.
Gauteng Under-19s opted to field first and made a mark when they nabbed their first wicket with only 11 runs on the board.
MG Modise was the first casualty for North West Under-19s, as he fell after scoring only three runs.
The bounce and the movement in the pitch was clearly intimidating enough to push the batsmen to the edge.
U Kruger took full advantage of the bowling conditions, as he was the one who drew first blood and ended with a six-wicket haul to his name.
The bowler was ruthless, as the denied the batsmen any room to regroup or forge some sort of a resistance.
With U Kruger going strong, the rest of the bowlers also chipped in by grabbing a wicket a piece.
The North West Under-19s’ management could just watch in shock as their boys were pulverised in the middle.
RA Viljoen (16) and SJ Naude (36) were the only two batsmen who scored in double figures as the side crumbled after putting a meagre score of 90 runs in 33.3 overs.
It was now payback time and North West Under-19s gave Gauteng Under-19s a piece of their own medicine when they took four wickets with just seven runs on the board.
This was a disastrous start by a team which had just come into bat after a spectacular day in the field.
With 20 runs on the board, they lost their five wickets and were sinking further in the pits of h**l against an exceptional bowling.
JK Soutter, was charismatic with the ball in his hand, as he grabbed five wickets in his 18.5 overs.
It was a 100 by J Broodryk that saved the day for Gauteng Under-19s, as they crumbled in their first innings after posting 182 runs.
North West Under-19s then scored 20 runs and had lost two wickets in five overs before the day came to an end.
