North america, greenland, and Eurasia fit quite well together in reconstructing Laurasia, but there is no space available for Iceland. Why is the omission of iceland from Laurasia resonable?

  1. It is a small volcanic island formed by upwelling magma from beneath the crust.  It probably didn't exist 500 my ago.  More likely it was formed after the break up of the Laurasia contintental mass, during the spreading of crust that formed the Atlantic Ocean.
