At what point does the North Atlantic Ocean become the SOUTH Atlantic Ocean ( and Vice versa)?

Is it the Equator?, or some other line of latitude?

  1. The equator, since it is the one which divides the earth into the northern and southern hemispheres.

  2. Atlantic is a beautiful ocean with the much sought after 'hour glass' figure unlike the rotund Pacific & Indian oceans.

Between 'Cape Palmas' (4d 24' N / 8d 10' E) in Liberia and 'Cape (or Cabo?) de Sao Roque' (5d 12' S / 36d 20' W) in Brazil it has minimum breadth at 1/8th of Earth's circumference (arc distance 45d 28' 16.15" or 2728.27 nautical miles / 5047km). Hence that is the line of demarcation.

  3. im pretty sure its the equator since its at 0 degrees north and south latitude
