North carolina law????

Question

my step dad, ex g/f and cousin told me that even tho im not 18 i can leave my house and my mom cant do nothin about it, and if she calls the cops that they will tell her that there is nothing they can do unless i broke the law. is this true? because i did get stopped by a cop the other day because he thought me and my cousin were up to something and it was like 5 in the morning and were both 17 and he didnt do anything he didnt tell my parents or nothin he just sent us on our way.

I bet you think this was a cool cop too !  Even though you are 17, your mom and dad are responsible for your action until you are 18 in NC. Juvenile until 18 here in NC. If you run away. Your parent's can contact juvenile services, which is like the Police for juveniles, and have you charged as an unruly juvenile.You will then be put in a corrections center until you become 18. If the local Police keep seeing you out at 5 AM in the morning, they will call your parent's sooner or later. Because if a citizen sees the officer talking to and you just so happen to be let go and got serious hurt that morning that officer would lose his/her job. I see you, I'll take you home and warn your parent's to control you or I will call juvenile services myself." TO PROTECT PROPERTY & SAFE GUARD LIFE " is the Police mato. Tought in rookie school from day one.  I wouldn't be doing this to be a mean a** cop. I would be doing this because I know at 17 you are not ready to become an adult yet. You may think so, but that's why NC makes it a law that you are not until you are 18 and even then some kids at 18 still act like juveniles, Now don't they!  You want to be an adult? Start at 17 and act like one. Do what your parent's ask, unless it breaks the law. I would understand then and anyone else would. Also, remember this!  If you can't be controled now at 17. When you get on your own as an adult, your going to find out that mom and dad were just trying to prepair you for the real world. Don't let the cousin and the step dad's x- girlfriend lead you to their world. Do right, and make your own world.  Yes, I know I'm a cop, but I'm one who cares.
