Its fairly simple, the south relied on agriculture, the north on industry.Even though there were riches in cotton, etc, the support group ,slaves was not cheap,Better to use, cheap labor, even kids, then have to support an huge group of slaves.The banks and  other institutions were quartered in The north, and transportation was years ahead, as the same sized track was not common in the south, so that trains could not be used for an entire route.The south never had a chance, bravery and honor aside,the war was won before it started


  2. The North had the factories, the South had the materials so as far as that goes neither one had the advantage. The two were actually fairly evenly matched until the battle of Vicksburg, where the South lost control of the Mississippi River, the main mode of transportation from troops to supplies.
