Northampton Saints announce signing of new deal with talented utility forwards player Calum Clark
English professional Rugby Union club, Northampton Saints, has announced the extension in stay of their young and talented player Calum Clark. Officials at the club have confirmed the signing of the new contract with Clark in a statement released on their website on Wednesday, September 21.
Northampton Saints Director of Rugby, Jim Mallinder, has expressed his delight on the resigning of Clark with the club. He added that it is in the best interest of the club to retain players like Clarks within their ranks, which will eventually help the Saints maintain a winning unit for a longer term.
Mallinder has acknowledged the hard work of Clark and termed his selection in their squad as a reward for his work, commitment and dedication. He praised the versatile forwards player and said, “He can play in both the back row and second row, which gives a lot of flexibility, and he always gives a hundred percent to the team effort. Calum has also shown his leadership skills on many occasions and it is easy to forget that he is still in the early years of his career.”
Clark joined the Northampton Saints during the 2010/11 season. Besides making 35 appearances for the Saints in both domestic and European competitions, he has also captained the Saints side in both Aviva Premiership and Angle Welsh championship matches.
Following his impressive performance in the season, the 22-year-old Clark was voted as the Northampton Saints Young Player of the 2010/11 season.
Clark has expressed his pleasure on signing his new professional deal with the Saints, which will allow him to extend his stay at the club. He expressed his hope that he will further improve his skills and performances in the coming years. Clark further added, “I definitely feel like Northampton is the right club to be at, especially at this stage of my career. The coaches are very hands on and talking to us as players.”
Durham born Clark made his professional Rugby Union debut for Leeds Carnegie in 2006. He made 70 appearances for Leeds and scored 30 points for them. He has also represented the England at under 20s level and captained the England’s under 20s side during the 2009 Junior World Cup.
