Northamptonshire crushed Kent by an innings and 159 runs in a match of the County Championship Division Two at the County Ground, Northampton in England.
The hosts only batted once in their innings, scoring a mammoth total of 480 runs whereas Kent managed 202 and 119 in their two innings.
Kent captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Key-c2349 decided to bat first after winning the toss as the conditions were good for batting. However, the visitors disappointed their captain and were bundled out for just 202 in their first innings.
The visitors’ captain gave a good start to his team, scoring 46 runs at the top of the order. He did not get much support from the middle-order batsmen though. The second highest score of the innings came from the bat of wicketkeeper batsman Geraint Jones, who managed 32 runs off 47 balls.
Other than the two batsmen, only South African Martin van Jaarsveld looked good for his 24 runs. None of the remaining batsmen were able to score even twenties.

The Irish player scored 71 runs in his valiant knock.

The Kent bowlers had a very busy time in the field, as they were not able to trouble the batsmen much. Simon Cook was the pick of the bowlers for his team with three wickets.
The visitors had a terrible start to their second innings, as they lost their top six batsmen for 32 runs. James Tredwell tried to offer some resistance to the home team’s bowlers, but only managed 35 runs.
