Northamptonshire v Worcestershire - Friends Life T20 – Midlands/Wales/West Group - 1st innings report
Worcestershire 142/5 (20/20 ov) – Worcestershire won the toss and chose to bat
On Saturday, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 amassed a total of 142 runs for the loss of five wickets, at County Ground, Northampton.
With everything to play for, Worcestershire knew that they needed to post a decent total on the board to give the fielding side a run for their money.
However, openers MM Ali and VS Solanki failed to bolster a mammoth partnership as with only 14 runs on the board the opening partnership was broken by Northamptonshire, bowler OP Stone, who pulverised Solanki’s stumps at a time when the batsman had scored only eight runs.
Then in the eighth over, the fielding side struck again by nabbing the wicket of Ali, who was caught by Wakely off the bowling of Middlebrook, after hitting 14 runs off his bat.
With both openers gone, PJ Hughes and JG Cameron grabbed hold of the match as the middle-order batsmen smashed sensational shots all around the park, to leave the bowlers in distress and utterly dejected.
After getting off to a superb start, Northamptonshire were now feeling the heat as the two Worcestershire batsmen were hammering the bowlers, increasing the run rate without any hindrance.
In a matter of a few overs, the two batsmen took the team tally to 134 runs before fans saw the end to the fantastic partnership on the demise of Cameron, who departed after pulling off an innings of 57 runs off 38 deliveries.
The way the batsman had batted, it not only showed his class but also exposed Worcestershire’s intentions of clobbering a massive tally on the board.
On the next delivery, Vaas struck gold as he grabbed the wicket of Hughes, who played an uppish shot and was caught by Stone, after hammering an innings of 52 runs off 50 deliveries. His innings included a six and three boundaries.
The rest of the batting line-up was not lucky enough as the batsmen failed to put-up much of a show, as they could not put something beyond the 150-run mark.
