Northamptonshire v Yorkshire - Clydesdale Bank 40 - Group C – Yorks win by 69 runs – Live Score and Update
Yorkshire 262/8 (40/40 ov) v Northamptonshire 193 (40.0/40 ov) - Yorkshire won by 69 runs
On Thursday, Yorkshire secured a 69-run win against hosts Northamptonshire in the ongoing Clydesdale Bank 40 tournament, at County Ground, Northampton.
Yorkshire have AU Rashid to thank for this victory, as the bowler grabbed four wickets in eight overs after conceding 38 runs. He was later named as the Player of the Match for his superb display of wits.
Earlier after being put into bat, Yorkshire clobbered an intimidating total of 262 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 40 overs. The side after getting off to a flier, failed to maintain their momentum as they lost too many wickets at the end, which cost them 20 to 30 runs.
From Northamptonshire, LM Daggett was the ace bowler, who destroyed Yorshire’s batting by nabbing four wickets in the later stage of the game.
The hosts had a fantastic start to their run chase with openers RI Newton and NJ O'Brien belting the bowlers right from the start without letting the opposition settle in.
After posting 54 runs, the partnership met its demise on the wicket of Newton, who was caught by Ballance off the bowling of Rashid. The batsman found his way back to the pavilion after hammering 30 runs off 32 deliveries.
Next to go was AG Wakely, who became Rashid’s second victim after scoring only eight runs.
The hosts needed to bounce back before letting things slip out of their hands; however, Rashid was not yet done, as he nabbed his third wicket of the day by dismissing O'Brien on a tally of 38. At the time of this wicket, Northamptonshire had amassed 97 runs on the board.
DJG Sales and RI Keogh then gave bowlers a tough time, as they steered the side to tally of 129 before Rashid struck again by decommissioning Keogh on a knock of 14.
The partnership between skipper AJ Hall and Sales exhibited potential, as the batsmen took the team tally to 162 before Sales got himself run on a knock of 55.
After this wicket, it was total chaos for the hosts, as they mustered a total of 193 runs before getting bowled-out.
