Hosts, Northamptonshire gave a resilient performance in front of home crowd on Wednesday, as they took on Yorkshire on the first day of their four-day County Championship Division Two match, at County Ground, Northampton.
Yorkshire chose to bat first on winning the toss, but failed to attain a dominating start, losing their first wicket with only 14 runs on the board, as opener A Lyth lost the battle after scoring only six runs off 15 deliveries.

Jaques then forged another intimidating partnership alongside skipper, AW Gale, as the two batsmen incinerated the bowling attack by smacking the bowlers remorselessly.
The blatant batting onslaught took the hosts by surprise and wrecked havoc in their ranks. The Northerns knew they needed to break this partnership or they would have to chase a mammoth total.
The Yorkshire duo belted the side to a total of 148 runs, before Jaques got run out after forging a resounding innings of 75 runs.
On the second delivery of the next over, the home side, struck again by dismissing Gale after the batsman had amassed an innings of 38 runs.
With four wickets down for 148 runs, the batting side needed to initiate a rebuild phase. Middle-order batsmen, JM Bairstow and GS Ballance stood their ground for a while as they took the score to 175 runs, after which the hosts grabbed their fifth wicket on the demise of Bairstow, who was trapped in front of stumps after scoring a knock of 17 runs.
Northamptonshire then grabbed hold of the situation, with their bowlers taking wickets at regular intervals.
With a tally of 201 on the scoreboard, Ballance hit the showers after smacking 24 runs. Later in the innings, SA Patterson forged an unbeaten knock of 25 runs, as his side finished their first innings on a total of 249.
