At stumps on the second day of the four-day match between Northamptonshire and Yorkshire, Northamptonshire trail by 74 runs with seven wickets in hand in their first innings after they posted a total of 175 runs in reply to Yorkshire’s first innings tally of 249, at County Ground, Northampton.
Northamptonshire openers, SD Peters and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KJ-Coetzer-c1798 began the day’s proceedings by dominating the bowlers right from the word go.
Unlike Yorkshire’s meagre opening stand of 14 runs, the Northamptonshire duo belted an impressive tally of 66 runs in the opening partnership, before Coetzer was caught by Jaques off the bowling of Azeem Rafiq after scoring 31 runs off 72 deliveries.
Peters was then joined by DJG Sales, as the two tried to maintain the batting onslaught that had rattled Yorkshire.

With a tally of 106 on the board, the batting side lost the services of AG Wakely, who was caught by Jaques off the bowling of AU Rashid after smacking a knock of 12 runs.
The home crowd then saw the arrival of RI Newton in the middle, and the batsman exhibited his supreme form by forging a commendable partnership with Peters.
The two batsmen prevented the bowlers from making further inroads as they stayed unbeaten till the end of the day’s play.
Peters clobbered a knock of 74, while Newton belted a score of 40 runs off 61 deliveries.
