Northants v Indians – Tour Match – 1st Day’s Recap
Indians 327/7 (90.0 ov) v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 - Indians won the toss and elected to bat
On the first day of India’s two-day tour match against Northamptonshire, the tourists look in a comfortable position at County Ground, Northampton, after managing to post 327 runs against a formidable bowling side.
The match is the only warm-up game before India’s third Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 set to begin from 10 August, 2011 at Birmingham.
The tourists were happy to see the return of their ace batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 who missed out on the first two Tests because of an injury.
After facing a humiliating defeat by the hands of England in the two Tests where their batting had collapsed against Andrew Strauss’ bowling arsenal, the tourists after winning the toss immediately chose to bat first to give their batsmen a good opportunity
to test their mettle under the English conditions.
Sehwag was sent in as the opener alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 to shred the Northamptonshire bowling attack, however, Sehwag looked rusty as he struggled to middle the ball and soon after facing 25 deliveries was trapped right in front of stumps by the 21-year-old
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Willey-c1342 which left the umpire with no option but to give the batsman leg-before-wicket after he had scored only eight runs.
The sight of Sehwag walking back was regretted by the Indians who wanted the returning batsman to stay in the middle for a longer period of time to get his form back before taking on the English side in the upcoming Test.
Gambhir also fell to his demise after facing 55 deliveries on which he managed to make 18 runs before being given leg-before-wicket off the bowling of David Jonathan Willey.
India’s batting maestro http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 were missing from the squad which helped Gambhir and Sehwag to make a comeback.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Mukund-c41758, who had a struggling time in the two Tests against the hosts, showed impeccable form as he clobbered the opposition by exhibiting fine stroke playing skills. The 21-year-old batsman scored 113 runs before falling prey to injury due to which
he could not continue to his innings.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 seems to be enjoying the English conditions as he is gaining confidence and looking impressive every time he walks on the field. In this match, there was no lack of concentration from the batsman who timed his shots and punished the
bowlers on bad deliveries.
After playing a knock of 49 runs off 70 deliveries, he was caught by Robert Irving Newton off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-Daggett-c1835.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Evans-c73277.
The late heroics by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871 helped the side reach a tally of 327 runs as the batsman remained unbeaten at the close of the day’s proceedings after playing a knock of 48 runs.
