Northeastern boys volleyball team defeats Spring Grove by 3-2
The Northeastern boys volleyball team have gotten their groove back after the thrilling win they were able to achieve over Spring Grove on Thursday.
The match between the two teams went on till five long and exciting sets but when the night ended, the Bobcats were the ones that had a 3-2 win.
The Bobcats have not only won the match, they have also secured themselves a position in the final of the York-Adams League Tournament. The semi-final win came with the added happiness of the Bobcats being able to redeem themselves of the loss they had incurred
at the hands of Spring Grove about two weeks ago.
By the time that the Bobcats were celebrating their well-deserved win by screaming their throats sore and Spring Grove was heading out of the courts cradling their disappointment, the scoreboard narrated the happenings of the night. It read 21-25, 18-25,
25-14, 25-23 and 32-30.
The first set of the match saw Spring Grove come out strong and put pressure on the Bobcats at the start of the match. Spring Grove was able to take the lead early on and the Bobcats kept on trailing behind for most part of the game. The Bobcats put on a
spurt of speed near the end of the set but Spring Grove prevailed in bagging the opening set at 25-21.
Capitalizing on the momentum built by winning the first set of the game, Spring Grove started off the second set in a dominating fashion too. The Bobcats experienced a loss in their confidence as they let Spring Grove score point after point. It was not
a hard job for Spring Grove to finally win the second set of the game at 25-18.
With a two set deficit, the Bobcats were sent a much needed wakeup call to which they responded positively. The Bobcats were able to step up their game and give Spring Grove a real challenge. The Bobcats came out so determinedly that they were able to make
a short story out of the third set, finishing it off at 25-14.
The rest of the two sets were highly intense but the Bobcats were able to win each one at 25-23 and 32-30 respectively.
When the match had reached its close, Coach Matt Wilson of the Bobcats said, “This was the road to redemption. We talked about it. We wanted to get that last one. That's the one you remember. This was a great program effort. I think that was the first sign
and the first time I've seen (that effort) from everybody all season. Everybody. If they were on the floor or on the bench. They were into it and they were committed to it.”
