Northern Districts in control against Auckland after Trent Boult's heroics - Plunket Shield
Northern Districts were in a strong position against Auckland in their Plunket Shield match being played at Colin Maiden Park in Auckland. The hosts were bowled out for 136 in their first innings and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 ended day one on 113 runs for the loss
of only two wickets.
Conditions in Auckland were not conducive for batting at all, and the captain winning the toss was expected to field first. There were no surprises at all after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Marshall-c1650 won the toss and put the hosts into bat.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-de-Boorder-c1036 was then
joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anaru-Kitchen-c1032 at the crease. However, Kitchen was unable to get going and was sent back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.
Wicketkeeper batsman and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-de-Grandhomme-c1279
and de Boorder paired at the crease for a 49-run partnership but both failed to capitalise on their starts. De Grandhomme was out after amassing 28 runs, while de Boorder managed only 26 runs.
Daryl Tuffey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Boult-c2708 was in menacing form as he took five wickets in the innings. He got good support from Brent Arnel, who grabbed three wickets for
his team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Wilson-c1187 and Bradley Watling started their innings steadily and gave the visitors a 70-run opening stand. Watling was dismissed after scoring 34 runs. He would have liked to carry onto the start he got, but failed to do so.
The first-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Flynn-c1309 was also unable to make the most of the opportunity, and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just four runs to the total. Wilson however, didn’t lose his focus at all, and amassed a solid half-century. He was unbeaten on
56 along with Marshall, who was not-out on 18. The pair will be looking forward to bat once in the match and possibly win the match by an innings.
Bruce Martin was the lone wicket-taker for Auckland. He will be looking forward to getting some support from veterans Chris Martin and Tuffey in order to save the match for the hosts.
