Northern Districts v Otago – HRV Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829 Volts secure 11-run win
A half-century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knights-c805, in their T20 match during the ongoing HRV Cup, played at the Seddon Park
in Hamilton on December 14.
The match kicked off with Otago winning the toss and choosing to bat first. However, the top-order failed to do justice to the decision, and for a moment the Volts looked to be on shaky ground.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Broom-c2090 (3) made his
way back to the pavilion in the fourth over, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TG-Southee-c2659, the Volts were at 15 for 3.
However, coming in at number 4, ten Doeschate revived the innings in a big way, scoring 65 off 45, including 2 sixes and 5 fours. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bradley-Scott-c1189, ten
Doeschate and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Gordon-Bracewell-c75912 (31) teamed up for the highest partnership of the match – a 66-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Bracewell was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brent-John-Arnel-c48390 (4-0-40-2). By the time ten Doeschate made his exit, the score had climbed
to 145 in the 19th over, and some final quick-fire contributions from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Herbert-Frederick-Fuller-c65789 (27*) and Neil Wagner (8*) got the Volts up to a final total of 173 by the end of 20 overs.
Otago then executed a successful defence of their total, and with Nick Beard (4-0-26-3) and Neil Wagner (4-0-41-3) spearheading the attack, the team managed to cut the Knights off at 162.
Coming in at number 8, wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583 (30) was the only other batsman who managed to make it up to the 30-run mark. The rest failed to capitalise on their starts, and by the end of 20 overs,
with 8 wickets down, the Northern Districts fell short, and Otago went on to claim an 11-run win.
