and Joseph Yovich, on the second day of their ongoing Plunket Shield match, played at Seddon Park in Hamilton on November 5.
The match kicked off on November 4 with the Volts winning the toss and electing to field first. Otago’s bowling attack, led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Wagner-c79182 (21-5-62-2) chipping in with
supporting performances, tore through the Knights’ batting order, restricting them, all out, to 204 on day 1.
Coming in at number 8, Ish Sodhi top-scored for the team with 48, and the only other decent contributions came from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Corey-Anderson-c1282 (34) and James Marshall (32). The remainder of the batting order remained insipid, and the team eventually finished at 204,
all out.
Otago’s first innings got off to an equally dismal start, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamish-Duncan-Rutherford-c61359 (14) was dismissed
by Jimmy Baker. By the end of day 1, with wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359 (8*) and Neesham (27*) at the crease, the Volts were at 71 for 5.
The second day saw both batsmen digging in their heels for a solid 137-run partnership for the 6th wicket. de Boorder brought his individual score up to 37, while Neesham scored a massive 124. de Boorder was eventually dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anton-Devcich-c1067
(2.1-0-4-2), while Arnel (26-8-74-5) picked up Mark Craig (1) as his fifth and final victim.
Neil Wagner (23) and Ian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Butler-c48850 (61*) remained the only other batsmen of note, and by the 80th over on day 2, the Volts were all out at 298.
The Knights stepped up to bat for their second innings, and openers Brad Wilson (54) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joseph-Yovich-c1735 (50) got them off to a steady start with a 103-run opening stand. Neesham eventually dismissed Yovich, while Wilson was picked up by Butler, and by the
end of play on day 2, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Marshall-c1650 (10*) at the crease, the Knights ended the day at 120 for 2.
