Northern Districts v Otago – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update
Despite having put forth a superb batting performance, the Northern Districts were unable to bowl http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Otago-c829 out during their final innings, with the first-class match between the two teams in the ongoing Plunket Shield eventually ending in a draw at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, today on November 7.
The match commenced on November 4 with the Volts winning the toss and deciding to field first. A concentrated bowling attack, featuring stellar performances by Ian Butler (17-7-39-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jimmy-Neesham-c1697 (17-6-58-2), saw the Knights all out for 204 on the first day of play, with the top score being Ish Sodhi’s 48.
Otago’s first innings threatened to turn out in a similar manner, with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IG-Butler-c1575 (61*) saw the Volts managing to post a total of 298 before they were all out on the second day.
The Knights made a remarkable comeback during their second innings – openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northern-Districts-c825 declaring at 533, and setting their opponents a 440 target.
The Volts got off to a faltering start during their second innings, finishing the third day at 12 for 2, with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 Baker. The final day of play kicked off with Baker (24-8-74-3) bringing his total tally up to three by dismissing Neil Wagner (10).
However, Otago were saved by the resilient http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Derek-de-Boorder-c1359 (3) and Jimmy Neesham (32) all chipped in before giving their wickets away. Mark Craig (93) appeared to be an effective partner for N Broom, but found himself dismissed 7 runs short of a century by Arnel (32-11-87-2).
Ian Butler (6*), however, stuck it out with N Broom until the end, and the two batsmen brought the Volts up to 353 for 8, and managed to remain not out until the close of play on the final day, ending the match on a draw.
