Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen apologises for offensive comments about China – Snooker news
Finalist in the 2011 UK Championship, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen came under another controversy when he tweeted about the venue and the organisation of the 2012 World Open but he has now apologised to the Chinese nation for what he did.
Allen just survived from earlier controversy that started before the 2011 UK Championship when he used abusive language against the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn. He blamed Hearn for not fulfilling his promise and corruption. However, that issue was
settled after both Allen and Hearn met at the end of the UK Championship.
When Allen came to Hainan Island, China, he did not find the event arrangement according to the international standards and tweeted some offensive words about the management.
Allen tweeted, “This place is horrendous! Dead cat found this morning. Any wonder this place stinks! Must be dead cats all round the town!!”
According to the Daily Mail, he wrote on twitter, “Journey a nightmare. People are ignorant. Place stinks. Arena’s rubbish, tables poor, food is horrendous. Other than that I love China.”
The Antrim potter removed this tweet later and wrote another one that said, “Might've been a bit harsh a few hours ago in my tweet. Not all Chinese people are ignorant. I stand by everything else though.”
His tweets disappointed the World Professional Billiard and Snooker Association (WPBSA) Chairman, Jason Ferguson and he described his actions as ‘extremely disappointing’. Along with that, it also hurt the feelings of hundreds of Chinese snooker fans and
the fans across the globe.
Meanwhile, the other day at the end of his second-round match, Allen apologised about his remarks and also explained his stance.
After his match, the Pistol said, “I would like to apologise for my comments yesterday when I said how much I don't like coming to China. I don't like travelling away from home whether it be anywhere outside the UK, or China. I just don't like being away
from home, not just in China, so I'd like to apologise.”
The 26-year-old has now surged into the semi-finals of the 2012 World Open snooker tournament where he will be facing the World Number one, England’s Mark Selby. Allen has played impressively throughout the tournament and might make his way into the finals.
