Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen hopes for a strong show in future: 2012 German Masters
The stage is set for all top potters from around the world to exhibit their skills in front of fans at the Tempodrom in Berlin, Germany. Along with other top dogs of snooker, 2011 UK Championship runner-up, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen will also show his
class in the arena. The Pistol had a troubling time at the start of this year but he hopes for a better future ahead.
During the 2011 UK Championship, the Northern Irishman went on a verbal brawl with World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn for his policies about changing the formats of certain tournaments. He was quite unhappy because the snooker boss altered the UK Championship
format.
The Antrim potter reminded the press that the time Hearn joined the organisation, he promised players that he will not change the playing format of Triple Crown, the UK Championship, the Masters snooker event and the World Snooker Championship. He added
that Hearn did not fulfill his promise and the 2011 UK Championship was played according to the revised playing format.
Allen believed that Hearn betrayed snooker lovers as well as the players and then he made some harsh comments on Hearn’s actions. In reply, Hearn warned the World Number 10 about disciplinary action. In early January, Allen was fined £250 by the World Professional
Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) for using foul language in a press conference during the UK Championship.
Later on, the 25-year-old was not impressive against the former World Snooker Champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson in the first round of 2012 Masters Snooker event and crashed out of the contest after losing to the Aussie by the score line of 6-3. However,
Allen, turning 26 this month, is hoping for a good future ahead.
“If Neil got on with it he would be a bit better to watch because at times I didn’t want to watch him play,” explained Allen about his match against 2012 Masters Champ, Robertson, “Neil is the sort of player who can keep you out of the game for long periods
and it was hard for me to keep my focus. He’s very good at it and knows he can do that to players.”
He added, “I let it get to me and hopefully I will learn from it and will not let it happen in the future.”
Allen will be present at the Tempodrom arena in Berlin, Germany, where he will be meeting the winner of the wild card round match-up, Tom Ford.
