Northern Irish Tourism Ministry eager to utilise the Irish Open for the promotion of tourism
As the momentum builds up for the coveted Irish Open on the Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, officials at the European Tour are contemplating an excellent feedback from the sponsors and the spectators who are likely to visit the course during the scheduled
weekend.
And European Tour officials are not the only ones who are eager to make the event a huge success.
Northern Irish Tourism Minister and many of the mercenaries are doing their part to make it a success which will in turn ensure tourist inflow to the region.
Golf, known as one of the key ingredients to lure in tourists from all over the world, Northern Irish Tourism Ministry is weighing its options to capitalise on the opportunity that they have acquired primarily due to the consecutive Northern Irish success
in the sport.
Open champion Darren Clarke addressed a press conference on Tuesday, May 29 regarding the schedule of the event and was joined in the by the Northern Ireland Tourism Minister Arlene Foster, Northern Ireland Tourist Board Chief Executive Alan Clarke, Royal
Portrush Golf Club Captain John Moss and Richard Hills, The European Tour’s Ryder Cup Director.
Foster said: “Excitement is really starting to build around the Irish Open as the clock ticks down to the tournament at the end of June. I know our three Major winners are looking forward to show what makes golf here so special and I’ve no doubt that those
playing Royal Portrush for the first time will be hoping a little bit of the Northern Ireland ‘magic’ rubs off on them”.
The Tourism Minister assured that the Northern Irish Executive is involved on personal note to ensure the success of the event and also admitted that Irish Open is a rare opportunity for the country to promote the sport and tourism in the country.
He added, “We have never had a better opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland to potential international investors and tourists”.
The Irish Open is returning to the Royal Portrush after a lapse of several decades when it was last held at the same venue in the year 1953.
This is also the first time that the event will be held at the sprawling course after the creation of the European Tour in 1972.
