Northern Trust Open proves a bad spot for Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay can easily be said to be the most dedicated and devoted golf player.
With the help of the last shot of the day, Cantlay was able to par putt to mark the end of the day with his score out a 1-over 72.
Even in the final round of the game, when the game was undergoing suspension because of bad light, Cantlay avoided leaving the course until he made it for the 18th hole of the day.
The best amateur golfer in the world, Cantlay himself admitted that he was not able to deliver the performance anticipated from him.
The last six strokes he played were much better than the earlier 78 he scored at a time when the gusting winds occupied the golf course at Riviera.
"Not really, (because) conditions were easier today," he said. "I just played poorly." It was from the very beginning of his match that he looked shaky about what he was doing.
At the end of the first round, his scores included four birdies, two double-bogeys and one bogey.
Some signature achievements that Cantlay, over his career timeline, has been able to add in his portfolio are that he accomplished the task of scoring hot 8-over par over 36 holes and then missing the much projected cut of 3 over.
In addition to this, he has also been able to score an amateur record of 60 in the Travellers Championship.
It was on the basis of his scorecard that allowed him with the opportunity of finishing in the last 25 of the event.
"It happens to everybody who plays," Cantlay said in an attempt to cover up the situation. He further added that the mistakes and errors he made this time will definitely not be repeated in times to come.
However, it was after this incident in particular that provided the golfer with the motivation of becoming the best golfer the world would ever witness.
It is interesting to mention here that a similar situation also took place with Luke Donald who, after scoring an 8-over 79 in the second round of the Northern Trust, missed the cut.
So it is only a matter of time when Cantlay will surge from his current form to prevail over the world of golf.
