Northern Trust Open raises funds of $1.6 million for charity
Northern Trust Open has generated $1.6 million worth of funds for non-profit organizations situated in Los Angeles. The purpose of the charity is to help spread awareness about the sport.
The news regarding the charity work was announced by LA sports icon and Executive Director of the Northern Trust Open, Jerry West, during a press conference held at Riviera Country Club.
West said, “Last year, the Northern Trust Open raised $1.5 million for local charities, and I said that was a great start but that we needed to do more. We've moved the needle once again in 2011, thanks to the hard work of the
staff, the volunteers, the PGA TOUR, Northern Trust and the LAJCC -- as well as the support of this entire community.”
He added that the venture was a combined effort and it proved fruitful with the utmost dedication of the entire team. Nevertheless, he added that the tournament’s management and all its partners had a greater milestone to achieve
in the coming year, to help create a difference in the lives of the new generations.
Later he presented a report, which said that a fund of $1.6 million was raised in the current year, which amassed the aggregate figure to $53.5 million. The report also revealed that the Northern Trust Open helped 15,000 local
residents on annual basis, which included 5,000 children, through programs like The First Tee of Los Angeles County and Riordan Volunteer Leadership Development Program etc.
Present in the press conference was the Northern Trust Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Frederick H. Waddell, who also shed light on the joint venture of raising funds.
Waddell said, “We are committed to the vital philanthropic mission of the tournament and are thrilled that our partnership with the PGA Tour will continue.”
According to the details given by Waddell, 67 charity organizations participated in the joint venture and all of them benefited from it. The money was generated through ticket sales of 2011 Northern Trust Open, which took place
at the Riviera Country Club from February 15 to ,20 2011. The event was won by Aaron Baddeley.
