with the side only managing 145 in their allotted overs.
The hosts started off solidly with opening pair of Le Clus and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pieter-Malan-c2187 adding 60 in 8 overs. Both complimented each other, with the skipper attacking the bowlers with some clean hitting and Malan providing the supporting hand, rotating the strike at
will.
However the collapse started when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaun-Walter-Liebisch-c89865 was brought into the attack. The medium pacer broke the partnership on the first ball of the ninth over, dismissing Malan, who was held well by Ruan du Plesis for a run-a-ball 23, which included two fours.
It brought Faf on the field but his stay on the crease was cut short by Liebisch. The most important contribution from the pacer came when he ran out top scorer le Clus. The player fell just one run short of a deserving half century and left the field stroking
6 fours and 1 six.
Douglas Hewitt (5) became the third victim of the medium pacer, failing to guard his stumps and perishing in the process to leave the team in a precarious position at 90 for 4.
However, Graeme http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Buuren came to the rescue with an unbeaten 39, helping the team to a defendable total.
The visitors started of their chase in fine fashion with openers sticking to their task well. They added 42 for the first http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chad-Keegan-c1222 going at over 8 runs per over. However, the loss rejuvenated the bowling team and they slowly asserted their authority on the proceedings.
The second wicket of RA du Plessis was the key, and when he fell to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lerutla-Matheko-Gershon-Masekela-c72646 for a well made 34, no other batter could come to terms with the leg break of Faf. The spinner dismantled the middle-order and the batting side lost five more wickets, adding
just 29 runs.
Faf then cleaned up Sean O’ Connor to claim his fifth, and despite a late onslaught by Liebisch (30) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Viljoen-c58714 Viljoen (16), the Easterns fell 13 runs short of the total.
Apart from Faf, Masekela and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rowan-Ranaldo-Richards-c86925 were among the wicket-takers, grabbing two and 1 respectively.
